ProductsComplex geometry lenses, combined with the Boston materials positive factors, make the Medicon Rose K2 lens the best option for visual comfort and superior visual acuity for the patient.THE MOST PRESCRIBED CONTACT LENSES FOR KERATOCONUS IN THE WORLD!Mediphacos, with its pioneering and quality philosophy, provides the Brazilian medical profession with the world’s best in keratoconus fitting: Medicon Rose K2 WHAT IS MEDICON ROSE K2? ![]() The standard design lenses (single curve) with optic zone fixed diameters can not ideally fit the patient’s cone shape. Figure 1 shows a single curve lens which will produce an undesirable tear reservoir at the cone base. This stagnated tear, that does not circulate, will harm the corneal physiology because it will reduce oxygenation and favor debris build up. Moreover, the standard border of single curve lenses, without variation in edge lift, causes a greater or lesser lens adherence to the cornea, impairing its physiology. ![]() Figure 2 shows the benefits of a smaller optic zone that fits the cone outline. From such design we have less tear stagnation at the cone base and a more uniform tear film distribution underneath the lens The Medicon Rose K2 lens has accurate optic zone diameters that maximize vision and respects corneal physiology. WHICH INFORMATION MUST THE FITTER PROVIDE THE MANUFACTURER SO AS TO ORDER A MEDICON ROSE K2 LENS? The fitter must provide information on 4 characteristics: central back curve, diameter, degree and type of edge lift. The Medicon Rose K2 central back curve may vary between 5.10 and 7.60 mm and will be defined by the fitter at the time of the test. See the fitting manual that comes with the test kit. Special curves, below 5.10 or above 7.60 mm may be manufactured for extreme cases. The optic zone diameter does not have to be specified by the fitter. It will be calculated by a complex computing system following this principle: the back optic zone diameter reduces proportionally to the reduction in the back curve, expressed in mm. Or, the steeper the lens curve, the smaller the back optic zone diameter. This ratio is not fixed, it is determined by the total lens diameter. The Medicon Rose K2 lens diameter may vary from 7.9 to 10.2 mm. The test kit comes with the 8.7 diameter, which is the one used for most of the patients. Medicon Rose K2 lens may be manufactured in any positive or negative power, which will be determined by the over refraction. The test kit lenses have powers that increase as the lens curvature becomes steeper (reduces the central back curve ray) and this makes the over-refraction power smaller when the lens is optimally fitted. Three edge lifts are possible in the routine production of the Medicon Rose K2 lens and these fit 85% of the patients with keratoconus: standard lift, increased lift or reduced lift. See the fitter’s manual in order to know when to indicate each one of these lifts. However, many other finishing options are possible, allowing the fitter to achieve optimal periphery fit in approximately 100% of the patients. This complex design is what allows the Medicon Rose K2 lens to follow, as close as possible, the cone contour, yielding excellent vision and comfort. WHY IS THIS LENS CALLED MEDICON ROSE K2? There is the Rose K lens, which was the first design of such lens for keratoconus. This lens has been recently modified in order to add to its back surface a sophisticated parabolic contour that compensates the spherical aberrations. This modification does not alter the original fitting characteristics of the Rose K lens, but it greatly improves vision quality for Medicon Rose K2 users. MEDICON ROSE K2™ LENS BENEFITS FOR KERATOCONUS PATIENTS • Easy fitting • Broad specifications spectrum • Different periphery systems available • Advanced aberrations control for better visual acuity • Better patient comfort • High patient satisfaction rate • Systematic approach that makes the tests simple and quick • Broad test kit with an easy to use fitting manual.
